Theft From PennDOT In West Sadsbury Township

On October 15, 2025 State Police at Embreeville reported that around 9:18 A.M. State Police responded to a location along Swan Road in West Sadsbury Township for the report of a theft. Property was taken from the road closure site at the bridge located on Swan Road. Pennsylvania State Police is investigating. Among the stolen items: Fourteen Orange Reflective Traffic Barrels, Six Road Closed Signs, 6 Road Closed Metal Stands.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The act of stealing construction barrels, road closed signs, and sign stands from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) would primarily violate 18 Pa.C.S. § 3921 (Theft by unlawful taking or disposition) of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code. Additionally, the specific nature of the items (traffic control devices) means it would also violate 75 Pa.C.S. § 6126 (Interference with devices, signs or signals) of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
Anyone with information about this theft should call (610) 486-6280. A deeper dive of PA Code revealed, Stealing signs from PennDOT violates several PA laws, most notably Pennsylvania’s vehicle code, specifically Title 75 § 6126, for interfering with an official traffic-control device. Additionally, it is considered theft under Pennsylvania’s Crimes Code, potentially under the statute for theft by unlawful taking. Penalties can include fines and jail time, depending on the value of the stolen item and whether it is a first offense.
