Editor’s Note: In Pennsylvania, assault without a weapon that causes bodily injury is called simple assault, defined under the law as attempting to cause or intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another person. It is a misdemeanor, with the specific degree and potential penalties depending on the circumstances, such as mutual combat or the victim’s age. “Bodily injury” is defined as an impairment of physical or mental condition or the causing of substantial pain.
