On August 15, 2024 at 10:35 P.M. Pennsylvania State Police Lancaster was notified of a water rescue being conducted at the Muddy Run Creek boat launch, 300 River Road, Drumore Township, Lancaster County, PA adjacent to the Susquehanna River.
Investigation by Troopers revealed three subjects entered a boat. Shortly after leaving the boat ramp, the boat’s engine experienced a malfunction and shut down. The boat began floating down the river for several hundred yards before striking a rock and becoming disabled on the rock.
Brian Pierce attempted to swim to the shore to summon help while leaving the other two boaters behind. The two witnesses on the boat observed Pierce swimming to the shore, but midway Pierce experienced difficulty. At that point the witnesses lost sight of Pierce in the dark water.
An extensive search for Pierce was conducted, but he was unable to be located. The search effort ended at approximately 4:AM. Pierce is described as a 39 year old white, non-hispanic male. Pierce is 5’10” tall and weighs approximately 165 LBS. Pierce was last seen wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt and baseball hat.
The Pennsylvania State Police were assisted on scene by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Rawlinsville Fire Company, Conestoga Fire Company, West Willow Fire Company, Wakefield EMS and Maryland State Police.
