Construction Season Wrap, Centerville Road Dedication

Today, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Engineering District 8, which covers Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties, announced a successful construction season with 111 active projects, 53 of which were completed this year. Work in 2025 included replacing or repairing 32 bridges and paving 147 roadway miles. PennDOT also recognized the completion of the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement Project, which included the locally sponsored Centerville Road widening project.

PennDOT has been hard at work improving Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges throughout the year, improving more than 3,600 miles of road, including over 1,100 miles of paving, and beginning work to repair, replace, or preserve more than 309 bridges from January through September of this year.

In the southcentral region, 58 projects with a contract value of $636.3 million are currently active. A total of 43 projects, including seven local projects, were or will be put out to bid in 2025 with an estimated bid value of $276.9 million.

Today’s event was held at the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project, completed in collaboration with a local project to widen Centerville Road in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. This project consists of structure replacement, Superpave overlay, base replacement, roadway widening, milling, guiderail improvements, drainage improvements, pavement markings, ADA improvements, traffic signal improvements, and other miscellaneous construction work.

“We are excited to mark another successful construction season, as well as the completion of the Centerville Road Interchange reconstruction project. This project will help ease congestion and improve safety and mobility at the interchange and through the Centerville Road corridor,” District 8 Assistant District Executive for Construction Mike Reeder said. “PennDOT continues to advance highway and bridge projects such as this to improve safety and mobility throughout southcentral Pennsylvania.”

The project includes work on Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road. The project is primarily located in East Hempfield Township, though the section from Cornerstone Drive to Columbia Avenue is in Manor Township.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $36.3 million project.
