Johnstown, PA – Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Jerry Oleksiak today announced the Hiram G. Andrews Center (HGAC) in Johnstown, Cambria County, is suspending classes at the Commonwealth Technical Institute (CTI) to protect the health and safety of students and staff and help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.
Beginning immediately:
- HGAC is suspending in-person classes;
- Students are being sent home for at least two weeks or longer;
- HGAC is arranging for students’ transportation home, prioritizing high risk students with complicated medical issues;
- If students are unable to return home, HGAC will arrange for continued housing, meals and medical monitoring for these students at the facility; and
- HGAC instructors are preparing assignments that students can complete remotely.
While students are home, HGAC staff will continue to report to work focusing on maintenance and cleaning of the entire facility, curriculum reviews, caseload documentation and review, training and case studies, and staff cross-training activities.
HGAC provides individualized educational and rehabilitation programs to 234 residential and 44 commuter students on a 45-acre campus in Johnstown. HGAC’s Commonwealth Technical Institute offers quality postsecondary education and support services to students as they determine and follow individual goals of employment and independence in the community.
